Nothing new under the sun...Ecclesiastes 1:9

I saw something similar at Crystal Bridges, and I plan on doing one for the March Post Memorial Art Show.

F4our portraits!

Per Request of Melissa at  http://www.thechocolatemuffintree.com/ I am including a brief description of how we accomplished this cool project.

I started by taking a photo of the students using my IPhone, with a free app called iMajiCam.  It has all sorts of filters.  We used the Posterize filter.  Plug it into the computer, download, print off a copy for each student.  I take the pile, and photocopy it once, to have a backup. Then the students take a blank sheet, with their face underneath, and trace the lines where a value touches another value. You get a result similar to a paint by number.  That gets photocopied 4 times, and we do the work on the photocopies of their drawing.  1. Monochromatic in acrylic. 2. Stippling.  3. Fauvism.  4. collage.
When finished, you tape them together on the back and display!  Hope this helps!Finished our four portraits.  They sorta look like A Warhol.  they are Monochromatic paint, Stippling with marker, Fauvist with gel pens, and collage from magazines.  YummY!

I overheard two girls talking in one of my classes ths week.

They were watching me make something at my desk.  the first one said to the other, "That would be an awesome job, to get to make fun things everyday."  Yes.  Yes it is an awesome job.

Two days later, someone in my art club wrote this on the board.

Mini Matisse tried this, so I downloaded an app on my iPhone and tried it out!  I used a laser pen in my work room.  The app is called "Slow Shutter".

We are coloring like "Wild Beasts" for our third of 4 portraits.  Here are some examples by Andre Derain and Henri Matisse..

art is the best part of the day: Hybrid Logos: My art II students did this as a short graphic design project. It took them about two 1.5 hr classes to do the whole thing. They had to come...

New sub lesson?

The Homework Machine, oh the Homework Machine,
Most perfect contraption that’s ever been seen.
Just put in your homework, then drop in a dime,
Snap on the switch, and in ten seconds time,
You homework comes out, quick and clean as can be.
Here it is – “nine plus four?” and the answer is “three”.
Three?
Oh me…
I guess it’s not as perfect
As I thought it would be.

stippling

Stippling is hard!  Espically Dark values.  Black and light are easy, but successful dark takes time.  These students used markers and their drawing of their posterized digital photo to make these awesome pointilist artworks!  Simple line designs in the back spice things up.
