Easy abstract design starts with a page filling design of a stusents name.
I teach students about art, creativity, and visual problem solving at Carthage Junior High. My wife is also an art teacher, and my three kids are all into their own arts, music, drama, imaginary unicorn development!

New Syllabus
My new syllabus. This is the PDF version. I used Microsoft Publisher and Ms. Hanh noted that it would not show up. Thanks for the heads up! the actual publisher version is not so posterized. Basically, I wanted a more vibrant version of my previous, boring syllabus. I got the idea from my wife, who is doing a brochure as her syllabus, and also this Blog by Tona Hangen, associate professor of us history, Worcester State University.

This is the only class this year that successfully completed their Rube Goldberg Machine. Forgot to add back in audio, but they rang the bell at the end.

String art
Also called curve stitching, this art is usually done on boards with nails. At the jh, we figured how to do it with recycled cardboard and embroidery floss. White kite string was used as well, and dyed with markers and water on a brush. Most students followed patterns from Internet.

Ugly jugs
Edgefield, SC is the home of face jugs. My students explore this tradition by making their own. We start by viewing a video by PBS called "History Detectives: Face Jug" that explains its history. Then demo and hands on clay. We slab build a cylinder on day one, day 2,3 we add handle and face.
