Holiday ornaments

Made by rolling scrap clay and punching out with cookie cutters. Some of these could be on family trees for decades! The look wonderful painted with acrylics.

Portfolio day is here

Today is the day I hand back 1000s of artworks to go home. Gotta save back some for youth art month!

We made brown paper portfolios to store the work and a parent form to prove they went home.

Art to remember order is here!

Art to remember is a company that puts children's art on products. Our shipment came in 9 days before Christmas!

Slightly used Elmo!

Thanks Ms. Neuber! Your Elmo will be a welcome addition to art class! Now I just have to figure out how to use it!

Rube Goldberg designs

Another cross curricular lesson. Rube Goldberg made cartoon drawings of absurd, overly complicated machines.  In our art class, we start by looking at examples of his hart.  Then we start talking about the 6 simple machines discussed in 7th grade science.

1. Incline Plane
2. Wedge
3. Screw
4. Wheel and Axle
5. Pulley
6. Lever

Then students start to make preliminary drawings in their sketchbook.  These are the requirements:

Must have 15 steps.
Must use all 6 simple machines.
Must accomplish a task.
Must have written directions.

Once they have a good design, they draw a final version on 6x 18 inch paper, and color.

After, we create a real Rube Goldberg machine from our still life objects, blocks, books, tape and the like.  Check the video from previous years!
