This year, one of the locations students are drawing is the historic Phelps house in Carthage, MO. Tyla, a docent at the home let our students explore it's cavernous interior before we try to draw it!
I teach students about art, creativity, and visual problem solving at Carthage Junior High. My wife is also an art teacher, and my three kids are all into their own arts, music, drama, imaginary unicorn development!

Drawing field trips begin
The rain this week put us back a few days but students are stretching their newfound drawing skills on the beautiful buildings of Carthage. First stop: Jasper County Courthouse two blocks from school. Met a retired couple from Minnesota making their way to tulsa, that commented "it's a beautiful day and a beautiful building to draw." These trips also help remind me of what a wonderful place we live in. We see friends and school busses dropping by, friendly waves from the mail carrier, even tourists from around the world lugging cameras! Down main street we are drawing homes, and at least one owner popped out his head to tell students he was glad to see them drawing his home.
